A petition to get Daniel Tosh off the air

I think by far the best summary of why Tosh is unfunny and obviously a privileged asshole is in this post, “How to make a rape joke“. And from there I learned that there is a petition you can sign to get him booted off Comedy Central. Here’s the petition’s argument, which I fully support :

Daniel Tosh, offensive jokester extraordinaire, crossed the line a few days ago in a comedy club. During a skit in which he made jokes about rape, a young woman stood up in protest of the offensive jokes. In response, Daniel Tosh “joked” about how “funny” it would be if she were to be raped by “like five guys” right then. His jokes continued and the laughter in the club grew so loud that the young woman had to flee in fear.

This takes offensive joking to the next level. Tosh did not simply make jokes about rape, which is bad enough as it is, but he used his jokes in a threatening way that a young woman ran away to maintain her safety. He used his jokes to silence a person who was concerned with the nature of them.

Yes, there are possibly rare funny instances of rape jokes. If the person telling them is the butt of the joke. And even then, great sensitivity has to be exercised at all times. It might just be better to find some other topic to joke about, if you ask me. But Tosh did not actually joke, he threatened, triggered, intimidated. It’s inexcusable. I hope he learns something out of this.

You have to have a mind to be actually able to learn. Dogs have minds. Tosh does not.

lets get one thing straight, why would you go to a comedy club and expect anything less than offensive things. The fact it says she had to leave in fear is bs. lets be honest. nothing was going to happen to her. that was blown completely out of proportion. She just wanted to seem like a victim and get attention.

    Don’t mind the trolls.

The protests are working because the decent people are in the majority:

    and Tosh is running scared:

Comedian Reportedly Rushing To Cut Rape Jokes From New Series

producers and editors are scrambling to take out any reference to rape in the pilot episode of Daniel Tosh’s new animated series, Brickleberry.Production sources tell RumorFix that Tosh has given them just over 24 hours to make the changes — because the series is scheduled to be shown at Comic-Con in San Diego Friday night.

“Everyone is freaking out, because most of the pilot is about rape,” our source says.http://rumorfix.com/2012/07/daniel-tosh-orders-rape-out-of-tv-premiere/

Daniel Tosh did not attend Comic-Con, where the pilot was to be aired, and Tosh was scheduled to head the panel.

Tosh went to a better school than you did. Also the girl stayed at the club, she lied in her blog. If you don’t like offensive jokes, then stay away from offensive comedians ie: Carlin, Carr, Tosh, C. Rock, and every other mother fucking comedian out there. Bunch of cry babies, I hope China nukes my country so all these mouthy bitches die.

    How do you know?

You should try reading for comprehension. The point that people are making is that he did not make a joke. He intimidated a female audience member.

Tosh went to a better school than you did.

According to the pfffft! of all knowledge Tosh went to Astronaut High School in Titusville, Florida and got a marketing degree from the University of Central Florida. Neither of these are top rank schools.

Really. Everyone knows he is offensive and you can choose to listen or not choose to listen. Everyone has their own limits. Know yours and don’t watch, don’t go to his show and don’t participate. Not everyone is always going to be happy so give it a rest.

While I don’t find rape anywhere near humiliating, I think the source of the blame goes to modern society. You see on tv how sex is so glorified, this is only making kids want it even more. You have commercials with half naked women, shows that hold role models to modern kids that show them going of and having sex (Jersey Shore), and tons of other influence on these teenagers. Now I cant say this causes them to rape people; but when a kid who cannot attract a lady into having sex with him simply cannot do that one thing, he is going to break. Lust will take over his body making him do things without thinking. I mean these things on tv make sex look so great that kids lust it even more. So i think that is one thing that contributes to rape.

Also, you see women walking around these days with their asses hanging out and their boobs all pushed up. I mean women if you dress like that you’re endangering yourself even more. A man sees you and as i said lust will take over his body. I admit I have done and said some stupid things when overwhelmed with lust and there after i wondered why i just did/said that.

So before you go blaming one specific person you need to realize there was something that influenced their own actions.

I am an 18 year old male and can admit this. Bottom line; quit advertising sex everywhere, and women quit showing off so much skin in public.

  11. Yes, Tosh is a product of rape culture and the person above me who said don’t watch his show if that offends you, you are a part of the problem. He didn’t joke about rape – I won’t argue about rape jokes being funny or not ; I’ve never heard a funny one but maybe one can be – he personally intimidated a female audience memeber with the threat of gangrape against her body and intimated that her being raped would be comical. There are ways that people can make a rape joke funny but it takes a level of sophistication to soothe and elevate such a experience. Tosh doesn’t have it so he shouldn’t attempt it. Promoting rape as something comical and to be laughed at is part of rape culture. Women who opine on the internet get rape threats daily as do female columnists and journos. Men laugh about raping a girl if she doesn’t give them the time of day (This actually happened and the dude got punched in the face by another girl for it). To them its a joke because that’s what they’ve been taught and what they’ve learned via media. But to girls who live with the threat of being raped, assaulted, grabbed…it’s not a joke. This is the culture you’re advocating by saying “don’t watch if it offends you.” No. If it offends me, I’m going to try to change the fact that such a culture exists that a man can level such a attack in a public forum and he is fucking cheered for it. Remaining a passive observer to rape culture is being a part of the problem.

A woman should not have to wear a burqa just because you can’t control yourself. I’ve been on many beaches with bikini clad women, topless women, and totally naked women and I’ve never felt the urge to rape one. Perhaps when you grow up you’ll learn self-control too.

  13. Hecklers are vile, disgusting individuals and they deserve everything they get.

  14. 'Tis Himself

It depends on the reason for heckling. If the “comedian” isn’t funny then they need to be told so. Sorry if that offends your self-righteous assholery.

  15. If you don’t like his show, don’t watch it. But I do not wish to live in a world where everything is dictated by people who would rather ban, censor or destroy anything that doesn’t fit into their narrow world view.

Nobody is forcing you to watch Tosh.0, but he does have an audience and you have no right to force them not to watch. Mind your own business and try to live your life without constantly trying to interfere with other people’s lives, no matter how morally righteous you may think yourself to be.

We should find things WORTH being angry about. Right now there are MANY things that actually pose a threat to the future wellbeing of our society, and not one of them is a comedy show. Take notice of political matters, the economy, and other REAL issues. This inexplicable outrage over complete nonsense is not worth our focus as a people right now.

  16. By the way, Tis Himself. I do not agree. What some find funny, others do not, but it doesn’t give you the right to suddenly think that you or any other heckler can speak for everyone. Most hecklers I’ve seen are drunken idiots who would rather the attention of the room be on them, and not the comedian. That being said, I find it hilarious that you accused someone condemning hecklers of being a self righteous asshole, considering you defense of heckling.
