The “Dry July” campaign is a little bit like the “Movember” one over here in Australia and New Zealand, a fundraising event where individuals or groups sign up, do something that’s supposedly really hard, like growing a moustache (duh !), or, in the case of the real tough folks, to not touch any booze for a month, hence the “Dry July”.
So in the case of Dry July, if you sign up for the campaign, you get your own website, and people can visit it and donate there, to sponsor you and motivate you to keep going with not drinking alcohol for the 31 days, and that money goes to an institution of your choosing to support adult cancer patients, in my case , this year that will be Ballarat Health Services. Just because they are in the country, where everything is much harder anyway, especially looking after cancer patients, and also because I have no professional affiliation with them. Now, there is also something called a Golden Ticket, if you donate money towards that, I actually get a day off not boozing. So please, whatever you do, do not sponsor me a Golden Ticket ! I mean, I beg you, seriously, don’t do it.
To be clear, I’m not asking for donations here. But I would like to see some readers take up the challenge with me, to not drink alcohol for a month. We will lose weight, improve our health, and in the case that we actually get any donations, it will be for a good cause. So please boys and girls, especially those of you who have been looking for a good reason to stay off the grog for a while, come and join me for Dry July !

I’m considering it. I’ll see if I can rally support.
