I missed Blasphemy Day!

September 30 has been International Blasphemy Day for a few years now, following the ugly business with the Danish cartoons in 2009, and is led by the US-based Center for Inquiry.

In my view, blasphemy laws are one of the biggest problems that we as a modern society face today. There are literally billions of religious nutjobs out there who consider the fact that someone may not want to buy into their superstitions, and might even question or critisize or mock their false beliefs and its main objects of delusion, a crime punishable by death, imprisonment or fine. Enough with the special treatment for Prophets already

In the religion of Islam, there are two major factions or sects today. Those who barracked for 60-year old Abu Bakr to succeed a guy called Mohammed after his death in 632 CE to lead the aspiring religion of Islam into the future as the first Caliph are called Sunni, while the ones who are the 50 times removed grandkids of those who voted for a much younger guy called Ali at the time, are the Shi’a. Talk about enduring allegiances.(To be fair, noone told Ali that a meeting was already taking place to make this decision for the future, the poor chap was busy washing Mohammed’s dead body at the time, or so we are told)

But he is not the only prophet by far, actually. Rather, the list of prophets in Islam reads like a casting list for former greats of other religions, in particular Christianity and Judaism. Moses, Abraham, Jesus, all prophets of Islam. Compared to that list, you’d think Brent Spiner and Wil Wheaton appearing in Big Bang Theory is small change.

Never mind. Even the different factions of Islam seem to agree on one thing today: Do not mock or insult the prophet. Continue reading

Let’s pray that Islamists never google “Islam”

Since obviously there are a million and a half videos, books, blog posts, journal articles, you name it, already out there that in one way or another are critical of the religion of Islam.
So we are left to wonder why exactly it should be this particular recent unwatchable ridiculous and dubbed-over trash clip, published in a preview 14 minute version on YT that is now leading to violence, murder and unrest in Islamic countries.

Why not the gazillion other clips out there on the internet critisizing, mocking or ridiculing Islam and its prophet? Why not the bazillion books and newspaper articles freely available through any leisurely Google search? Continue reading
