And here I was thinking that elevatorgate had finally died. But according to my pingbacks, it’s still going on in some corners of the internet (we’re not counting ERV’s troglodyte park here).
I’m a little confused about this latest (in the true sense of the word, 2 months too late) attempt, however. It features a picture of PZ Myers with the text “Would you want this man’s creepy sexualizing gaze sweeping over your body?”. Now, either the blog author is woefully misinformed, in which case they should have better kept their mouth shut, or this is some weird attempt at satire that has spectacularly failed. Although this next paragraph does make me think it might indeed be satire, or someone really dumb is writing this crap :
As diehard loyalists, we agree with those in the Watsonian Subculture who believe Rebecca gave this obscure nobody a gift by acknowledging her existence. The poor girl’s blog was probably Slashdotted from the millions of readers following the link from Skepchick.
Watsonian subculture, huh ? That sounds mighty fucked up to me, since there is no such thing, and insinuating that there is makes me even more suspicious that there are some nimwits with an axe to grind against Rebecca at work here. Personally, I don’t think much of loyalists of any kind. It’s not a virtue to follow someone blindly regardless of whether they are right or wrong. In fact, it’s pretty damn stupid, irrational and entirely unscientific.
So yeah, I have my doubts that Rebecca would approve this post by the so-called “rebeccawatsonfanclub”.
