The Australian Quack Awards

There is such a thing as the Australian Psychics Directory. It has members. The members apparently give out awards to other members, although I’m not certain as to what the criteria are for being named Australian (there have one for each state as well) Psychic of the Year. Most people lied to in one session ? Best actor ? Highest income from creating false hope and consolation ? I don’t know. Anyway, from their website I learn that the Australian Psychic of the Year 2012 is :

*drumroll*

Ezio De Angelis

Who ? Ah wait, here it is :

Ezio has worked as a medium specialising in spirit communication for 15 years. He and his wife Michelle own and operate a spiritual teaching centre, The Gathering, in Revesby New South Wales. Ezio is a renowned teacher and mentor.

In 2008 Ezio featured as one the top three finalists of Channel 7′s first season of The One. In 2010 he was voted New South Wales Psychic of the Year. Ezio writes regularly for That’s Life! magazine, Spheres and many other publications. Ezio has written and self-published three acclaimed books: Godsparkle, Rainbows in the Dark and Living Spirit. He continues to work extensively on stage, television and radio. He is passionate about his work.

Postcards from the Other Side, a new book co-authored with his wife Michelle, will be published by Allen & Unwin in July 2012.

Ezio has comforted thousands with his compassionate and detailed presentations of survival evidence mediumship both publicly and in private sessions. He has been described as a specialist for those with a wounded soul or a broken heart.

Because this is what psychics do. Since there are no such things as spirits, or mediums, and the dead are very dead indeed and just do not communicate, people like our friend Ezio here need to make stuff up for a living. They are good at reading facial expressions, or collect information about their victims by other means, but they are not mediums, and they don’t talk to dead people. No postcards from the other side will ever be forthcoming, because there is no other side, and dead people don’t write postcards. They rot. I can’t believe such nonsense can get published.
Psychics in a sense are like priests. Leeches who feed off the emotions, the grief, sorrow, worry and loss of ordinary people. And both religions and psychics have been making a fine living out of it for centuries.
