I see this article in Raw Story today : There are no mermaids: U.S. government. It seems that in reply to the recent incident of some guy chewing a homeless man’s face off, and also in response to letters received after a documentary on the Discovery Channel, both the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the National Ocean Service (NOS) found it necessary to give out official statements assuring American citizens that neither zombies nor mermaids do in fact exist (I will ignore the elephant in the room here, which is that this had to be pointed out to Americans in the first place, but then again, half of them believe there is a devil and that the earth is 6000 years old).
I must applaud these attempts by US officials to do away with myths and superstition in this decisive way. I just hope that they don’t stop there, and boldly take the next step : How about leprechauns ? Fairies ? Thor, Zeus and Yahweh ?
Can’t wait for the next announcements.

That’s what they want us to believe. But what are you going to do when the zombie mermaids start looking for victims? Complain to NOS?
